Research indicates that early language abilities are directly related to later reading abilities. In other words, building those skills which are a precursor to reading is very important. The interactions that young children have with such literacy materials as books, paper, and crayons, and with the adults in their lives are the building blocks for language, reading and writing development. Early literacy experiences support the critical processes occurring in your young child’s brain.
According to Zero to Three, a nationally recognized leader in early childhood,” Early literacy skills are essential to literacy development and should be the focus of early language and literacy programs.” Thrive to Five offers several educational opportunities for parents and caregivers to learn and understand how to help develop their child’s early literacy skills.
Ever wonder if your child’s development is on track? Families who are wondering about any aspect of their child’s development can complete a brief screening called “Ages & Stages” with one of our screening staff. The questionnaire takes about 10-15 minutes to complete. The screener will score the survey and discuss with you right away. The survey can accurately identify infants or young children who may be in need of further assessments. Most often, parents are relieved to learn that their child is absolutely average!
